About the stone

The beginnings pearls occur when an oyster, mussel, or clam attempts to soothe the part of its body when a granule enters its shell. It does this by creating a unique coating layer over the irritated area, known as a nacre. The sea animal will add layer after layer of nacre until a beautiful, glistening pearl is formed. Best known for their whimsical shapes and wide variety of sizes and colors, the character of a freshwater pearl is found in its distinctive surface texture and the warmth of its luster.  Though freshwater pearls are commonly found, the lustrous quality of them are very difficult to find.  We go straight to the source to find the most lustrous strands of freshwater pearls for this necklace.
